Spirit of Paimio Conference
We are pleased to announce the first edition of the Spirit of Paimio, a one-day conference hosted at the historic Paimio Sanatorium—a global landmark of functionalist architecture designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto. Conference admission is 250 euros and the event is in English.
In 1933, the Paimio Sanatorium emerged as a beacon of hope and modernism, embodying a radical blend of architecture, medical research, craftsmanship, and harmony with nature. Created as an advanced medical facility for tuberculosis patients, the sanatorium has evolved to represent much more—it stands as a manifesto for an architecture of empathy, care, and human dignity.
The Spirit of Paimio is not a one-off event; it’s an initiation into a larger, ongoing dialogue that we hope will influence and inspire communities and professionals around the globe. We invite guests of all backgrounds to join us for a day of profound dialogue and collaborative inspiration.
The conference's keynote-speakers are Lyndon Neri, architect (Neri&Hu), Hans-Ulrich Obrist, art director (Serpentine Galleries), Juhani Pallasmaa, architect, Beatrice Galilee, chief executive officer (The World Around), Susanna Pettersson, chief executive officer (Suomen Kulttuurirahasto), Otto Lowe, director (Factum Foundation), Nicolay Boyadjiev, creative director (Rearc), Sofia Pia Belenky, designer (Space Caviar) and Joseph Grima, curator (Paimio Sanatorium Institute).
