Revitalize Meri-Toppila Workshop

Revitalize Meri-Toppila workshop in Oulu brings together architecture, design, and cultural students; local actors; artists; neighbors; and interested professionals to transform an underutilized parking lot into a vibrant Pop-Up Cultural Park that will last the whole summer through community-driven design and construction.


The week-long workshop will include:

-Collaborative building sessions using reclaimed materials

- Workshops led by experts in architecture, design, art, and heritage conservation from Finland, France, the UK, and Latvia

- Guided architecture walks exploring Alvar Aalto’s industrial heritage and Oulu’s urban connections

- A final festival on May 31, featuring music, dance, and performances

All necessary materials, tools, and workspace will be provided, and a professional contractor will oversee safety on-site. Event is free and open to all.

Kick-off event

May 27 at 09:00 at Tellus Stage, University of Oulu (Pentti Kaiteran katu 1, 90570 Oulu). After the kick-off, the participants will walk to the site in Meri-Toppila and start the construction

A series of virtual info sessions will be offered to workshop participants in the weeks leading up to the event. The time and date of these sessions and walks will be sent via email to registered participants.
