The conference welcomes professionals from different countries to discuss how we could breathe new life into the existing built environment. Ilkka Salminen, founding partner of Verstas Architects, is one of the speakers.

Re-thinking and re-designing the built environment in a sustainable and conscious way along with respecting the environment and human beings, is a deeply felt need both in Italy and around the world. More often we choose to give "a second life" not only to ancient buildings and historic centers but also to modern buildings and urban areas without a special historical-artistic value.

In this context, the role of the architect is primary because his work can contribute to giving a new value to the existing heritage with a meaningful impact on the environment at a social, cultural, economic and environmental level.

With the speeches of various world-famous architects, the conference aims to create an opportunity for dialogue and professional exchange between Italian and international professionals on the theme of building recovery and adaptive reuse in contemporary architecture.

During the meeting, architects Tatiana Bilbao (Mexico City), Max Dudler (Berlin), Sou Fujimoto (Tokyo) and Ilkka Salminen (Verstas Architects, Helsinki) are invited to Rome, exclusively and as a preview to Italy, to present some of their recent works.

All the featured projects address current and urgent issues: from environmental sustainability to the circular economy, and from social impact to respect for human beings.

The meeting, promoted by the Casa dell’Architettura and the Rome Chamber of Architects, is curated by Arianna Callocchia with the aim of presenting the sustainable design approach of a selection of international architects.

The event is free and open to everyone.
