The year of biennials and triennials – discover the highlights of this year's major architecture exhibitions

CAF / Copenhagen Architecture Biennial
In 2025, architecture enthusiasts will be treated to a particularly packed calendar of events around the world.
While Finland celebrates its super year at the Biennale Architettura in Venice, the international architecture events scene is in for an equally eventful year. In Finland, architecture and design enthusiasts can look forward to next fall when Helsinki Design Week and TAD Week return to Helsinki and Tampere with their festival programs.

Milan Design Week + Salone del Mobile 2025
Milan, Italy
April 8–13, 2025
One of the world’s largest design events, Milan Design Week and the Salone del Mobile will once again bring together design, interior, and architecture enthusiasts to springtime Milan. The massive design event consists of the Salone del Mobile fair and the citywide Fuorisalone events. The theme for Fuorisalone 2025, Connected Worlds, explores design as a participatory art form, as well as the connections between physical and digital spaces.

EXPO 2025 Osaka
Osaka, Japan
April 13 – October 13, 2025
The World Expo in Osaka, Japan, will feature over 150 countries, with an expected 28 million visitors. The six-month-long exhibition’s main theme is Designing Future Society for Our Lives, which will address topics such as sustainability and innovation. Finland will participate alongside other Nordic countries in a shared Nordic pavilion.
Biennale Architettura 2025
Venice, Italy
May 10 – November 23, 2025
One of the most internationally prestigious events in architecture, the Biennale Architettura attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city every two years. The theme for 2025, Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective., explores diverse, inclusive, and imaginative forms of intelligence. This year, in addition to the The Pavilion – Architecture of Stewardship exhibition at Finland’s national pavilion, Finland will have a broad presence throughout the biennale: the country is responsible for the Nordic pavilion and will also have an unprecedentedly extensive representation in the main exhibition.

Triennale Milano
Milan, Italy
May 13 – November 9, 2025
The 24th Milan Triennale will explore the challenges of inequality and its multifaceted impacts on urban spaces, the human body, and communities through the 2025 theme Inequalities. The triennale’s numerous exhibitions, installations, and extensive public program will foster dialogue between architects, designers, and artists, delving into issues such as urban inequality, housing, and societal disparities.
Concentrico
Logroño, Spain
June 19–24, 2025
Since its inception in 2015, the architecture and design festival Concentrico has become one of Spain's most international and recognized festivals, attracting 30,000 visitors annually. The festival, held in the city of Logroño, will this year focus on themes related to the surrounding city and its phenomena: communities, the collective use of public spaces, and shared experiences. Finland will also be represented at the festival with an installation by Suomi/Koivisto Architects and the IC98 artist duo.
Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism
Seoul, South Korea
September 1 – October 31, 2025
The fifth edition of the Seoul Biennale will this year explore architecture's ability to inspire joy and create connections. The theme Radically More Human invites visitors to examine architecture and cities through both environmental and emotional resonance. Despite its young age, the biennale has already attracted nearly three million visitors and is expected to continue its growing popularity this year.

Bukhara Biennial
Bukhara, Uzbekistan
September 5 – November 20, 2025
The inaugural Bukhara Biennial takes place in one of Central Asia's oldest cities, inviting visitors to reflect on the connections between tradition and the present, as well as the role of architecture in linking history and modernity. The biennale’s theme, Recipes for Broken Hearts, explores the intersections of architecture, art, and cultural heritage through local installations, discussions, and performances. This is Uzbekistan’s first major international biennale, with ambitious goals to become the region's largest platform for artists and designers.
Chicago Architecture Biennial
Chicago, USA
September 12, 2025 – February 28, 2026
The Chicago Architecture Biennial returns for its sixth edition this year, extending throughout the city and its cultural center. Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the biennale’s theme Shift: Architecture in Times of Radical Change challenges architects to address pressing issues of our time, including ecological sustainability, housing production, and migration. In addition to the main exhibition, the biennale will feature over 100 partner organizations, with their own exhibitions and events spreading across the city.
Copenhagen Architecture Biennial
Copenhagen, Denmark
September 18 – October 19, 2025
The second new biennale of the year will take place in Copenhagen. The theme of the inaugural Copenhagen Architecture Biennial, Slow Down, explores architecture in relation to time and challenges fast and unsustainable design to slow down, encouraging mindful choices. The biennale's open call for architects and designers working in the Nordic region remains open until April 22.

BAL 2025 – Bienal de Arquitectura Latinoamericana
Pamplona, Spain
September 2025
Held in Pamplona, Spain, BAL 2025 will spotlight emerging architects from Latin America. The biennale's program will feature project presentations, exhibitions, lectures, and workshops for professionals, students, and the general public.
Mextropoli
Mexico City, Mexico
September 2025
Mextropoli, the largest urban festival in North and South America, attracts over 80,000 visitors to Mexico’s capital every year. The festival, which explores topics such as housing, mobility, public spaces, and equality, creates a platform for discussion and exchange in the heart of the historic city center. The program includes conferences, exhibitions, workshops, installations, and guided tours. In conjunction with the event, the Arquine competition showcases pavilions that address issues in architecture and urban planning. The festival's international open call is open until April 14.
Lisbon Architecture Triennale
Lisbon, Portugal
October 2 – December 8, 2025
The seventh edition of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale will explore the changing structures of cities with the theme How Heavy is a City?. This triennale delves into new forms of collaboration and interaction, focusing on building collective environments through architecture. The event will feature discussions, lectures, exhibitions, announcements, and Open House tours across the city.
Oslo Architecture Triennale
Oslo, Norway

The next Oslo Architecture Triennale will challenge visitors to rethink and redefine the boundaries between urban development and nature under the theme What if nature comes first?. Originally scheduled for September 2025, the ninth edition of the triennale has been postponed, and the new date will be announced later.
