Tampere Architecture and Design Week will be celebrated at the change of September and October. We compiled some programme suggestions for architecture enthusiasts.
Tampere Architecture and Design Week is a colourful mix of interesting, inspiring and topical seminars, exhibitions and workshops. TAD Week also opens doors to unique venues and sites. Themed Flexibility, the programme from 27 September to 4 October will mainly take place in the historic Finlayson factory area in the city centre of Tampere.
Exhibition: Grand Tour 2021 & 2023 – the influence of Antiquity on Western Architecture

Since 2009, the Institutum Romanum Finlandiae has organised every two years a month-long Grand Tour course in Italy, at Villa Lante in Rome. The participants are architecture students from Aalto, Tampere and Oulu universities. Tour 2021 & 2023 will showcase works from two courses. Pens and brushes have stroked from Lombardy in the north to Apulia in the south. From expansive cityscapes to details of column capitals, the works capture what architecture students have perceived during one month in Italy.

Exhibition: Architecture and design – a look into the future: Tampere Art Museum

When completed, the Tampere Art Museum extension and refurbishment to an art museum centre of the future will be one of the most significant public buildings in the western parts of Tampere city centre. It will be a landmark building giving structure to the urban space and an attractive cultural destination. The exhibition includes drawings from the planning phase, illustrations, and section and facade drawings.

Exhibition: Architecture and design – a look into the future : Alusta -pavilion

27.9.-6.10.
Located in the courtyard of the Design Museum and the Museum of Architecture in Helsinki, the Alusta Pavilion provided a space for species encounters from June 2022 to October 2023. The research pavilion explored the intertwined nature of nature and culture and sought ways to care for biodiversity in urban environments. The pavilion served as a platform for environmental debate, both at the level of its material and sensory experience and through the various activities that took place there.

What will the new architecture and design museum in Helsinki look like? The final answer will be decided in autumn 2025, but this video presents more than 600 entries to the design competition.

Kaleva Church, designed by Reima and Raili Pietilä, will be open for extended hours during TAD Week, on Tuesday 1 October from 11 am. to 8 pm.
Seminar: Architecture and Cities in Transition

TAD Week will culminate in an international seminar, Architecture and Cities in Transition, featuring keynote speaker Konstantinos Pantazis from the Greek architecture firm Point Supreme. Other speakers of the English language seminar include Samuli Miettinen (JKMM Architects), the designer of a Finlandia Prize for Architecture finalist project, Tammela Stadium; Jukka Savolainen (AD Museum), and Jerome Picard & Elida Mosquera (Bergen, Norway, LOCAL).
