Renovated Finlandia Hall opens its doors to the public

Finlandia Hall has opened its doors after three years of extensive renovations. From now on, the event venue will be open daily to all locals and tourists.

One of Finland's most significant event venues, the Finlandia Hall designed by Alvar Aalto, reopened on January 4. The building has been under extensive refurbishment since the beginning of 2022. For the first time in its history, the renovated Finlandia Hall will not only serve conference and event guests but will also be open daily to locals and tourists as a shared space.

"In our story, a whole new era begins. Our history has been undeniably impressive and successful, but modern times demand new ways of thinking and operating. During the renovation years, we have done bold and determined work to innovate and conceptualize our offerings so that we can serve both our clients and the Helsinki city center even better," says Johanna Tolonen, CEO of Finlandia Hall.

New era for Finlandia Hall

New amenities have been added to the extensively renovated building, although event and congress services remain at the core of Finlandia Hall's operations. The Main Auditorium, Piazza and other event spaces have been refurbished, including the furniture. A new showroom can be used for product launches or pop-up exhibitions, for example.

In addition to events, visitors will be served by an à la carte restaurant, a wine café, a panoramic terrace and accommodation services. A design shop specialising in Finnish design will also open next to the café.

"We offer more services and experiences than ever before, and they are specifically designed to make the visit of event and conference guests both immersive and holistic," says Tolonen.

The renovated event venue also offers accommodation. Two apartments originally intended for the building's staff have been restored and converted into bookable guest suites.

In June 2025, Finlandia Hall will open the permanent Finlandia Experience exhibition, which will tell the story of Finnishness and the life work of Alvar, Aino, and Elissa Aalto, as well as the sources of their creativity.

The exhibition will be divided into five distinct immersive spaces.

"The exhibition is strongly based on experiential elements. Finlandia Hall is not a museum, but a living event venue. That’s why the exhibition vividly tells the story of the people, the building, and the world surrounding it," says Annikka Alanko, Project Manager of the Finlandia Experience.

Pikku-Finlandia, which served as a temporary venue during the renovation, will continue to operate for the rest of the year before being relocated for other purposes.

Finlandia Hall will host an open house event on Saturday, January 25th. You can find more information about the event and the renovated Finlandia Hall  here.
