Impressive presentation of young Finnish architects in A10
The newest issue #58 of the European A10 architecture magazine dedicates five spreads to contemporary Finnish architecture and rising architectural offices. The focus Finland review is part of the magazine's Eurovision article series and it has been edited by Indira van 't Klooster, editor-in-chief, who visited Finland in May 2014. She has collaborated with architect SAFA Tarja Nurmi, a long-term correspondent for A10, and been assisted by the Museum of Finnish Architecture and Architecture Information Centre Finland.The Eurovision Finland review is richly illustrated and covers highlights from recent housing projects and public buildings. One of the articles gives prominence to the Uusi kaupunki [New town] collective whose user-oriented and pragmatic approach van 't Klooster regards as unconventional and internationally noteworthy.Finland is praised for being a paradise of new architecture with ample opportunities: even the most demanding public projects are available for young architects. The magazine expresses admiration for the Finnish system of architectural competitions, its national policy for architecture and exquisite and innovative interior public spaces specific to Finnish architecture.A10 was established in 2004.
