Finnish success in Wolfsburg Bildungshaus competition

An international team lead by architect Esa Ruskeepää from Finland has been chosen among the three finalists in the open architectural competition for Wolfsburg Bildungshaus in Germany. The brief was to design c. 16.700 square meters for the new city library, media centre, adult education centre and extension for an existing secondary school building. The competition site is located close to the Wolfsburg cultural centre designed by Alvar Aalto in 1958–62.The 1st phase received c. 100 entries out of which 20 were chosen to continue. The three finalists – Schaltraum Architektur with HinnenthalSchaar LandschaftsArchitekten (Hamburg/München), prosa architekten with Rehwaldt Landschaftsarchitekten (Darmstadt/Dresden) and Esa Ruskeepää Architects with Fugmann Janotta Landscape Architecture (Helsinki/Berlin) – were presented at the Wolfsburg City Hall on 7 May 2014.
