How to design a better world?
The autumn exhibition of the Museum of Finnish Architecture cherishes the 25 years of education in global sustainability and humanitarian development at Aalto University.
'Interplay of Cultures' is focusing on the question how architecture can respond to the challenges posed by the megatrends of our time: globalization, climate change and urbanization. Curated by architect and Vice Dean Saija Hollmén, the exhibition highlights two inter-disciplinary, collaborative courses of Aalto University’s Department of Architecture that over the years have brought students together to solve global problems. The examples presented at the exhibition show that responsible values and the ability to act in new cultural environments are essential when designing for sustainable future.“Solving inherently local problems has taught the participating students about respect and empathy. Every cross-cultural encounter is unique – no two are identical,” states
Reetta Heiskanen, interim director of the Museum of Finnish Architecture.
In addition to the exhibition, a series of lectures will provide an opportunity to participate in the debate on the role of architecture in a changing world.Tuesday 25 September at 5pm
