Parliament Building 90 years exhibition open until 14 Jan.

The newly completed Parliament Building attracted a lot of attention and was considered to represent the pinnacle of Finnish construction in terms of both design and implementation. The building became a symbol of freedom and independence that reinforced the national identity of the young state.

​The Parliament Building’s foundation stone was laid in the spring of 1927, and the building was inaugurated on 7 March 1931. The Parliament Building is the masterpiece of architect Johan Sigfrid Sirén (1889–1961). Under his leadership and with the cooperative efforts of the best designers of the time, the Parliament Building became a complete work of art, in which every detail of the building and its interior design relates to the whole.

The exhibition at the Library of Parliament showcases the construction of the 90-year-old Parliament Building through pictures and artefacts from the Parliament's collections. The exhibition also features two scaled-down models of the building made in the late 1920s, newly restored in celebration of the 90th anniversary.
