Aalto's summer paradises at the Alvar Aalto Museum in Jyväskylä

Alvar Aalto's prolific career included designs for more than 100 summer homes. A carefully curated selection of these is now on display at the Alvar Aalto Museum in Jyväskylä in the delightfully sunny gallery exhibition La Dolce Vita – Summer Paradises by Alvar Aalto. The exhibition embraces the versatility of Aalto's architecture including various versions for pre-fabricated holiday homes, competition entries as well as commissioned private villas.A fantastic gem included in the exhibition is a film from the private collections of the Aalto family. The homely, black and white footage takes the visitor on a trip back in time to the carefree, forever sunny days at a genuine summer paradise, namely Villa Flora designed by Aino Aalto for the Aalto family in 1926.[caption id="attachment_2236" align="aligncenter" width="618"] The modest summer cottage Villa Flora is located in Alajärvi and it was designed by Aino Aalto for her own family in 1926.
