The 15th International Alvar Aalto Symposium – Future of Industry, focuses on the current challenges of the spaces and milieus of the history, present and future manufacturing industry. The main theme will be studied from three specific viewpoints. Reliable partner: a factory building in the city, Responsible action: sustainable industrial milieus and Building identity: The role of industrial architecture in constructing community, recognizability and perceived value.

The 2-day programme includes speeches and discussions, architectural excursions, exhibitions and various public events. Live broadcasts can be followed virtually around the world. Main language is English. Part of the additional programme will be available also in Finnish. The onsite venue will be the traditional main building of the University of Jyväskylä (Alvar Aalto 1955).

Keynote speakers of the 15th Alvar Aalto Symposium – FUTURE OF INDUSTRY are architect Xu Tiantian of DnA_Architects, Beijing, China and architect, urban planner Ute Schneider of KCAP, which has architectural offices in Netherlands, Switzerland and China.

Alvar Aalto Symposium is an international forum for discussion on contemporary architecture. It is a triennial event, that brings professionals from around the world together to engage in current topics in architecture. The aim is to raise critical discussion about the artistic, social and technical challenges of contemporary architecture.
