Architecture and City as a Home – 11th Annual Symposium of Architectural Research
3–4 October, 2019
Tampere University, School of Architecture
Campus City Centre (Kalevantie 5) and Campus Hervanta (Korkeakoulunkatu 5)
The ATUT symposium is organised by Tampere University School of Architecture as part of a series of annual symposiums organised by Finnish schools of architecture. It will be held as a joint event together with the 50th anniversary of the Tampere University School of Architecture.
The theme Architecture and City as a Home brings together participants with diverse backgrounds to create a dialogue about how to address current and emerging societal and environmental issues in the built environment at different scales. Homes, settlements, planning and designing good places to live and ways of resolving housing shortages have been central to modern architecture since the decades of early modernism. Furthermore, the themes of homelessness and nomadism have profoundly influenced architectural theory, critique and philosophical thought.
Topics of the symposium
- The city as a home – a home in the city
- Public meets private
- Home, city and society
- Sustainable and smart?
- Home, city and change
The Call for Papers is open until the 18th of April. The presentations may be held in English, Finnish or Swedish.
